Harold Matanin

March 12, 1927 — December 1, 2016

On December 1, 2016, Harold Robert "Bob" Matanin, 89, of Linthicum Heights, Maryland passed away peacefully following a short illness. He was surrounded by his family. Bob, as he was known to his family, was born on March 12, 1927, to the late Elizabeth and John Matanin in Duquesne, PA. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in occupied Japan. He went on to earn his Industrial Engineering Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and then started his career at Westinghouse in 1954. He retired from Westinghouse in 1991. Bob was a volunteer at the B&O Railroad Museum for 17 years, was a long-time member of the Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church, and was one of the original officers for the Crestwood Improvement Association. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, fishing, camping, world traveling, trains, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also an avid reader and a history buff. What he love the most, however, was spending time with his family. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy E. Matanin; his beloved children, Karen I. Westwood, Robin M. Almen (Jeff), Christopher R. Matanin (Deborah), and Jeffrey W. Matanin (Jennifer); his cherished grandchildren, Lara Westwood (Jack Verhoeven), Rachel Westwood, Ben Almen, Kate Almen, Joshua Matanin, Luke Matanin, Alyssa Matanin, Michaella Matanin, Sarah Matanin, and John Matanin. Bob was predeceased by his dear brother, Delbert Matanin.
