Anne was born at Paul Kimball Hospital in Lakewood, New Jersey (now Monmouth Medical Center Southern Branch) on Aug. 22, 1927, daughter of Carl and Helen Cavender. She grew up in Toms River, N.J. where she attended the grade and high school. In 4th grade she met her future husband, Bill. Anne and Bill were married on September 19, 1948 while Bill was just beginning undergraduate studies at Lehigh University. His career eventually led Anne and Bill to Maryland where they lived and raised their three children, Thomas Richard, Gregory Allan, and Karen Lee. Anne and Bill lived in their Linthicum home for 53 years before moving to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD.
Anne enjoyed a long and varied career while raising her children. She wrote Conversations with Anne Skillman, a regular column feature in appearing in the Maryland Gazette for 24 years logging over 1180 columns along with countless other articles and pieces while employed by the paper. Anne was active in the Linthicum Women's club for fifty years and worked tirelessly to lead and chair the club's publicity efforts. Anne's love for the arts led her to be one of the founding members of Performing Arts Association of Linthicum, PAAL, which is now presenting concerts as Maryland Concert Series. Anne contributed her talents to her community by working with Relay for Life, Omni House, Soroptimist International, Meals on Wheels, and many other organizations.
Anne loved traveling and meeting new people, working in her garden, and loving her grandchildren. Everyday was an adventure discovering new people and new places. Everywhere Anne went, she filled the room with her infectious smile and winsome personality. Anne and Bill enjoyed sixty-eight and one half married years together. She will be missed by her family and friends but, "Annie" will be missed most by her loving husband, Bill.
